Walking the Camino de Santiago de Compostela – Two days before departure

My flight to Spain begins on Thursday morning, leaving Dulles airport to finally arrive in St. Jean Pied de Port, France.  Although the Camino de Santiago runs across Spain, it begins in this small French city near the Spanish border and the Pyrenees Mountains.  Not knowing the best way to get there, I chose to fly to Bilbao, Spain, and so will have more than a trans-Atlantic flight in order to arrive.  There will be plane and train and bus to finally reach St. Jean by Friday evening.  I look forward to the train ride, not having had one in a looong time.

Am I ready?  Well, not exactly.  There is still the process of deciding what I really must take with me, and fitting it all into my backpack.  It helps to remind myself that I am going to Europe, and even the smallest village I pass through will have basic things I might need!

For this evening, this is it.  I’m excited and eager to reach the beginning of this path.
